Temple Garden at Whistling Gardens
Native and Ornamental Tree Collection

Over 450 native and rare Carolinian trees are planted throughout the gardens. The ornamental tree collection focuses on uncommon species, and new varieties. Some plants are being tested and evaluated for the first time in Canada at Whistling Gardens to determine hardiness, ornamental value and economic production viability. The Chinese dogwood collection for example contains approximately 25 varieties alone.

Our woodland walk features over 165 Dawn Redwood (Metasequoia glyptostroboides) planted in a forest like setting. It is thought to be the largest woodland planting of this species outside of China. Many Asian understory plants will be planted as the redwoods mature. Planted in 2009, as seedlings, some plants have surpassed 10ft in 2 years.
